Full Description

The Premier blueberry plant produces a large berry that ripens early, which makes it ideal for commercial markets that provide fresh blueberries early in the season, while wholesale prices are high. The Premier Blueberry plant is among the best rabbit-eye selection for the Eastern United States and is especially recommended for planting in the State of North Carolina, where the Premier blueberry bush is very cold hardy and resistant to early frost damage. Sometimes when you purchase blueberries from the store, the blueberries are not always completely ripe, but if you place them in a sunny window for a few hours, the berries will sweeten intensely with a distinctive floral aroma, and each berry will develop a rich fruity flavor. The Premier Blueberry bush is a variety of Rabbit-eye blueberry which will grow to be 6-8 feet. These bushes will have white and pink blooms in early spring. Blueberry bushes grow best in soil that is acidic, and rich with organic matter. Fruit will ripen mid-spring to early summer. The Premier variety was released jointly by the USDA and North Carolina State University in 1978. It tolerates a higher PH than many varieties and is a vigorous, upright and taller grower, reaching 6 to 8 feet tall. Blueberries are your go-to super food due to their high levels of antioxidants. The healing powers of blueberries are widely known. You just can’t beat the flavor of blueberries picked fresh off a plant you grew. Kids love them too! With the Rabbiteye Premier being a heavy berry producer, you will easily grow enough berries to make muffins, smoothies, cakes, bread, pies, even add them to your morning oatmeal or cereal. Blueberries are also easy to freeze, providing off-season enjoyment as well. Although often planted solely for the fruit crop, this versatile shrub also has excellent ornamental value (white spring flowers, dark green summer foliage, red fall color and reddish winter stems). Very effective when planted in shrub borders or as part of less formal shrub plantings. Particularly effective in conjunction with rhododendrons and azaleas which share similar acidic soil requirements. Also makes an excellent hedge with the added benefits of summer fruit which can be harvested or left for the birds.
