Although this plant is a part of the fig tree family, it will not produce any fruit. However, this plant gets its “rubber” name from the white sap that oozes out of its shiny leaves and stems when scratched or cut. This sap can irritate the eyes or skin if ingested, so keep away from pets and children.

Be sure to wipe down its foliage with a damp cloth or mist with a spray bottle. During the winter, Rubber Ficus plants may only need water once or twice a month. Ficus Rubber trees should be re-potted to ensure continued growth. A good rule of thumb is to transplant your plant into a pot that's an inch or two bigger in diameter. Be sure to well-draining soil to prevent root rot. Happy Frog soil is a great choice for Ficus elastica. If you’re using a pot without drainage holes, place a layer of small rocks in the bottom to aid in drainage. To encourage new leaf growth where leaves have fallen, snip a notch in the node from where it fell.
What is the best light for a Burgundy Ficus Rubber plant?
Burgundy Ficus Rubber plants prefer bright indirect light. Find a spot in your home where light is abundant, and if it's too bright, place a sheer curtain over the window. If your plant's leaves begin to lose luster or fall off, this is a sign that your Ficus Rubber plant needs more light.
