This Bloom-A-Thon® Red Azalea blooms up to 5 months rather than the standard 2 months. Beautiful red flowers appear in early Spring, then re-bloom during summertime, continuing through fall until the first harsh frost. Very good heat tolerance and disease resistance. Flowering can last up to 4-6 weeks in spring, and then again in 12-16 weeks in summer and fall.

How should I prune my Bloom-A-Thon Red Azalea Shrubs?
The best time to trim azaleas is after the blossoms have faded and flowers typically begin forming at the beginning of July, so you must prune Bloom-A-Thon Red Azalea Shrubs before then. If you prune azaleas after early July, you may not get any flowers on the bush next year. The most important reason for pruning Azaleas is to improve the overall health of the plant. Doing so will reward you with a flush of new growth. Red Azalea shrubs grow best when fertilized lightly in the spring once frost has passed with a well-balanced, extended-release fertilizer such as Espoma Holly-tone. Fertilize Azalea Bloom-A-Thon again 6 to 8 weeks later to encourage extra flowers or faster growth of young shrubs. Either chemical fertilizers or organic matter can be used successfully with Azalea shrubs. Since an organic method of applying manure and/or compost around the roots produces excellent results and improves the condition of the soil, this would be an excellent first line of attack. Organic additions to the soil can be combined with a shot of chemical fertilizer for maximum effect. If chemical fertilizers are used on your shrubs, applying a slow-release, balanced fertilizer once a year is probably the simplest solution.
How Do I Mulch My Bloom-A-Thon Red Azalea?
We highly recommend that you mulch your Bloom-A-Thon Red Azalea Shrubs with either a ground hardwood mulch or a ground cypress mulch depending on your local availability. Any mulch will do, but cypress or hardwood mulch will be of a higher quality and provide better nutrition overall as they break down. Mulching helps keep weeds away that compete with your new investment for water and nutrients. A 2 to 3-inch layer of mulch is sufficient, but remember to take care not to cover any part of the stem with mulch. It's better to leave a one-inch gap of space between the mulch and the stem or trunk of the plant. This shrub is a plant that will respond well to mulching with pine Needles (if available in your area). This will help maintain the acidic condition that azalea shrubs thrive.
