Contender Peach Tree

Contender Peach Trees are self-pollinating trees that produce a large fruit set on their own, so there is no need for a pollination partner. Although the Contender peach tree is known for producing a large volume of fruit, adding a partner could drastically increase your harvest amounts. However, this decision is optional, and either choice will not negatively impact your Contender tree.

Contender peach trees produce large fruits that have small pits and stunning red skin color. The peaches that come from these trees are commonly used for canning and fresh use. This variety has also been found to be cold-hardy and can survive in northern growing areas where other peach varieties most often fail. This means that Contender peaches can be enjoyed fresh from your garden in many growing zones.

Your Contender peach tree will not need fertilizer for the first few years of its life. You will only need to begin fertilizing once your tree begins to bear fruit, generally after two to four years. We recommend that you fertilize your tree in early spring with a peach tree or orchard fertilizer. Doing so will ensure your tree gets the nutrients it needs as a fruit tree. Be sure not to fertilize your tree after July 1. Doing so could harm your tree and hinder its fruiting the following season.
