Deutzia Chardonnay Pearls

Deutzia gracilis 'Duncan' PP# 16098

Deutzia Chardonnay Pearls Shrubs add three seasons of color to the garden. It's an easy growing, bright colored shrub. Numerous pearl shaped buds open to attractive white, fragrant flowers in the spring. When the flowers fade, it continues to shine with its bright yellow leaves. Growth is strong, but compact to create a wonderful small shrub that is equally at home in the shrub border as it is in a perennial one. Great for landscape use and small enough to use in container plantings. Adds color and vibrancy to any garden. Deer Resistant.

How to Care for Deutzia Chardonnay Pearls

We suggest when planting your newly purchased Deutzia Chardonnay Pearls plants that you dig a hole twice as wide as the root system but not deeper. Depending on the quality of your existing soil, you may need to add a locally-sourced compost or topsoil to the backfill soil. We do not recommend using straight topsoil or compost as a backfill soil for Deutzia Gracilis Duncan Chardonnay Pearls because more times than not these products will retain entirely to much moisture and will cause the root system to rot. Adding compost or topsoil will help the young feeder roots of Duetzia Chardonnay spread through the loose, nutrient-rich soil much easier than if you used solely the existing soil, which more times than not will be hard and compacted. The most common cause of plant death after transplanting is planting the new plant too deep. That is why we do not recommend planting in a hole any deeper than the soil line of the plant in the pot. A good rule is that you should still be able to see the soil the plant was grown in after back-filling the hole. Bio-tone starter fertilizer is a great starter fertilizer that provides plants with mycorrhizae fungus. It is a naturally-occurring, beneficial fungus that colonizes on the new growing roots of plants. It creates a barrier between the roots of the plant and fungus and pathogens that can cause root rot. We love this product and use it on all plants we install in our own gardens. Bio-tone is a gardener's best friend and can help guarantee your success.

Additional Information

History and introduction of Deutzia Chardonnay Pearls:

Like many ornamental plants, deutzia was not discovered in the wild, but rather as cultivated plant in Japan. Named in honor of Dutch plant hunting patron, Johann van der Deutz, deutzia was discovered, became popular and then with time fell out of favor. So it goes with many ornamental plants, the popularity of Deutzia Chardonnay Pearls Shrubs ebbs and flows like the whims of fashion, just like mini skirts and big glasses become popular once again with the passing of time.
