My Monet Weigela Shrubs for Sale Online

My Monet Weigela (Weigela florida 'Verweig') is a deciduous shrub with stunning green and white variegated foliage and pink flowers. This tiny mound of dark green-pink leaves is ideal for border plantings or perennial bed edgings and can be used as an accent plant or a dramatic mass planting. Consider using it instead of 'Crimson Pygmy' Barberry; My Monet Weigela doesn't have any thorns!

If planted in ideal conditions, it will delight you with season-long color and impressive raspberry-pink blooms. The bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds will thank you for a rich source of nectar to feast on from year to year. Just give it sun and water and you'll have intense color from spring to fall.

This dwarf cultivar from Proven Winners should be planted with access to full sun to partial shade. The color of variegation is dependent on the amount of sunlight it receives. For whiter variegation, place it in a semi-shady area; for pink variegation, plant it in an area that receives six or more hours of sunlight each day.

It is adaptable to many soil types but prefers well-drained soil. It is deer resistant and needs little pruning. Weigela adds a splash of color to any annual or perennial bed and is a winner of a Gold Medal from the Boskoop Royal Horticulture Society.

How to Care for Proven Winners® Color Choice® My Monet® Weigela

Before you buy a My Monet Weigela Shrub, make sure to read about the recommended care instructions to keep this plant healthy and thriving.

How Do I Plant My Monet Weigela?

How Do I Plant My Monet Weigela?

We suggest when planting your My Monet Weigela plants that you dig a hole twice as wide as the root system but not deeper. Place your rootball in the center and backfill with a 50/50 combination of existing soil and compost or topsoil. You should still be able to see the plant's original potting soil on top after backfilling the hole. This will keep the base of the plant elevated and prevent stem rot.

How Do I Water My Monet Weigela?

How Do I Water My Monet Weigela?

After back filling and lightly compacting the 50/50 mix of existing soil and compost give the weigela a good deep watering. This is not to be rushed. Most of the water you put on the plant at first will run away from the plant until the soil is soaked. A general rule of thumb is to count to 5 for every one gallon of pot size. For example a one gallon pot would be watered until you count to 5 a three gallon pot would be 15 and so on. Check the plant daily for the first week or so and then every other day there after. Water using the counting method for the first few weeks.

How Do I Fertilize My Monet Weigela?

How Do I Fertilize My Monet Weigela?

Shrubs such as My Monet Weigela grow best if they are fertilized once in the spring and once in the summer. Although some authorities recommend special fertilizer mixes to get the maximum results, weigela do amazingly well with a more relaxed approach. Proper fertilization will lead to healthier and more disease resistant plants, as well as provide you with many more enjoyable blooms. Always, read the label on your fertilizer bag, and follow the instructions.

How Do I Mulch Weigelia My Monet

How Do I Mulch Weigelia My Monet

We highly recommend that you mulch your Weigelia My Monet Sunset with either a ground hardwood mulch or a ground cypress mulch depending on your local availability. Any type of mulch will do but cypress or hardwood mulch will be of a higher quality and provide better nutrition overall as they breakdown. Mulching helps to keep weeds away which will compete with your new investment for water and nutrients. A 2 to 3 inch layer of mulch is sufficient but remember to take care not to cover any part of the stem of the plant with mulch. It's better to leave a one inch gap of space between the mulch and the stem or trunk of the plant.
