Kansas Peony (Paeonia lactiflora) is an herbaceous perennial with dramatic pink flowers that grow atop strong stems that hold up the giant double blooms. While it can thrive in partial shade, this peony plant produces the best blooms when planted in full sun.

As with all herbaceous peonies, the Kansas Peony has a short bloom cycle in early to mid summer. Even after the peony flowers die off, the remaining bright green foliage sticks around making this plant a great foundation plant and backdrop for other blooming plants. As the ground freezes, this plant dies back. This is completely normal however and the plant will come right back in the spring for years and years to come.

Ideal conditions for the Kansas Peony include soil with well drained soils and full sun. The Kansas Peony grows best in moderate climates and is best suited for USDA grow zones 3-8. Your Kansas Peony would benefit from the application of a slow release fertilizer in the growing seasons of spring and summer.
